General Needs Accommodation for single persons and families

If you are looking for an affordable general purpose home to rent it will be necessary for you to apply to your local council. Your local council will assess your application and if you are eligible they will allocate priority points to you and will place you on the Housing Needs Register.

Most councils now operate a Choice Based Lettings scheme in order to allocate vacant properties to persons who are on the Housing Needs Register. This scheme is designed to offer tenants more choice about where they live and make the re-housing process easier to understand. Choice based lettings schemes are running across the UK and they have proven very popular with tenants.

The vacancies that the council and the various housing associations have available each week are advertised in the local press and on the council's websites. Persons who are on the register then use the points that they have been allocated to "bid" for any properties that they are interested in. The person with the highest points is then allocated the property. Please note that it is not possible for you to request that you are specifically placed in a Christian Action Housing property.
